Charlotte Brontë (1816–1855) was an English novelist and poet, best known for her masterpiece Jane Eyre (1847), published under the pseudonym Currer Bell. As the eldest surviving Brontë sister, she overcame early personal tragedy—losing her mother and two sisters young—to forge a literary career, defying Victorian gender constraints.
